New Friends
Gert Taberner unearths life’s most formative experiences and feelings under a glow of eloquent songcraft, unfiltered lyricism, robust instrumentation, and cinematic production. After generating tens of millions of streams, the Frankfurt-born and Vancouver-based singer, songwriter, and producer continues to chronicle the often-unbelievable seasons of life. Says Taberner, "it's funny how fragile our egos can be at the end of a relationship. We get back on the horse and try to cosplay fully functioning humans after the first shock wears off. We go on that run, we get that makeover. we put ourselves out there in hopes to spend our time in other ways that fill some of the space left behind. Maybe there's a little spite in there too. If I can move forward from this and come out unscathed, maybe it makes me seem less vulnerable, like the whole thing didn't completely shatter me. But then at some point the pendulum has to swing back. No amount of healthy or unhealthy coping mechanisms can save you from actually feeling the things when they come up. New Friends is my attempt at trying to journal the healing as well as that push and pull between pushing the hurt down and letting it breathe."
