Never Say Die
Never Say Die is the debut album from Hansel, an Australian rock band that appears to be trying to follow Steel Panther to mock-rock superstardom. With their hair metal image and pseudonyms (Busta Lacey, Grind, Thruster Jones), it's easy to overlook the fact that these guys (and gal) actually rock pretty hard. Never Say Die is sort of like Feel the Steel minus the Andrew Dice Clay lyrics. It's a totally rocking, totally upbeat and totally fun album that follows the `80s hard rock style. And unlike a lot of Australian bands, Hansel seems more inspired by Poison and Motley Crue than AC/DC. It's all big hooks, catchy melodies and upbeat party rock anthems like "Wild Tonight," "Rock City" and "Rocketship of Love." Never Say Die is big, nasty fun. Are they having a laugh at the expense of hair metal's image? Maybe, but as long as the music is this good I'm willing to forgive them. Never Say Die is an irresistible rock n' roll album, pure and simple. If you're a fan of the classic `80s rock sound, you really need to give Hansel a try.
