Los Angeles based meija expertly marries indie pop with alt grooves, never steering away from a big hook. The nom de plume of writer/producer Jamie Sierota, the name meija is an anagram of the letters in his first name. Previous to releasing music under this moniker, he toured the world with his siblings in the band Echosmith. Since then, meija’s collaborated with the likes of JAWNY, Hand Habits and Charly Bliss. He released his first full length album as a solo artist, titled Do Ya?, in 2023. As a solo artist, he’s explored analog and live recording, tapping into nostalgia while creating a sound that’s nuanced, layered and complex. “MAGIC” features indie rock artist and frequent collaborator JAWNY on a track that lyrically examines the mysterious things in life in a lighthearted way. “I don’t think you need religion to be spiritual,” says Sierota. “So many things can’t be explained, but why bother? Chalk it up to “magic” or whatever you want to call it.”
