Another artist who has also appeared on SKIP with albums of his own, David Gazarov lets the Django Reinhardt piece “Place De Broukere” evolve while tickling the ivories much like Thelonious Monk. Highlights emerge from get-togethers with the legendary Bireli Lagrene on guitar, whether on the Hoagy Carmichael ballad “The Nearness of You”, the Stevie Wonder hit “You Are the Sunshine of My Life”, or “Dinelo”. On the latter, Sandro Roy and his Unity Band present the Di Piazza classic sensitively, yet always with an eye to the modern together with Bireli Lagrene. And of course Jerome Weiss, Sandro’s companion for years on piano, can’t be missing here.
