The new album by UK artist Coefficient is an expansive and ambitious sci-fi journey, and the first release on his new label, Unspace. Since 2006, respected DJ and producer Coefficient has been releasing intricate and intense hypnotic techno on respected labels such as KR/LF, M_Rec Ltd and Labrynth, and currently works as a mastering engineer providing his audio experience for many underground labels in the techno community. The Worlds of Arcship Five, set nearly 1000 years in the future, follows the journey of the ‘Arcship Five’, an A.I. powered spacecraft sent through wormholes to find a suitable star system for human colonisation, each of the 13 tracks revealing the spacecraft’s adventures to new alien worlds. From the ethereal synths of the opening track, and the rolling bass and classic techno inspired bleeps and pads of ‘Arcship Five’, to the high energy focus of ‘Departure (Expanding Planck Space)’, ‘Planet of Storms’ and the raw tribal energy of ‘The Predator Planet’, the album flows from abstract and hypnotic dancefloor cuts to ambient interludes. The deep techno of ‘10x Earth Gravity’ with it’s falling pitches and evolving bass tones, and the weird pulsing minimalism of ‘Arachnoid Probe Deployment’ and ‘Subterranean Hydrocarbon Pools’ are some of the album highlights. An epic space journey into the cosmos.
