Type O Negative
Country of origin: United States Location: Brooklyn (New York City), New York Status: Split-up Formed in: 1990 Genre: Gothic/Doom Metal Lyrical themes: Depression, Death, Relationships, Love, Dark humour Last label: Steamhammer Years active: 1989-1990 (as New Minority), 1990 (as Repulsion), 1990 (as Sub Zero), 1990-2010 Bloody Kisses was the first album on Roadrunner Records to ever reach Gold and Platinum status. Contributed an instrumental version of "Haunted" for the soundtrack to the video game Descent II. Had a tradition of producing their own albums. Every album since October Rust is labeled as a "product of Vinnland" on the back cover. Vinnland is an imaginary country, which, according to Peter Steele, is the US and Canada merged into a single nation (see the official website for the story behind Vinnland). Made an appearance on The Howard Stern Show in 1996, performing their cover of Neil Young's "Cinnamon Girl". Due to the briefness of their appearance on the show, the song's duration was significantly shortened to a mere 30 seconds. Known for having a dark, cynical sense of humor. In 2005, the band played a cruel joke on their fans by stating that Peter Steele has passed away (on their official website, a picture reads "Eter Steele... Free at Last... 1962-2005). The picture read "Eter" because a leaf was covering the "P" supposedly. The irony of this prank is that it was posted on Friday the 13th of May 2005. Steele eventually passed away on April 14th, 2010 from Meckel's diverticulum. * The band's current name was chosen in part because all four original members had already tattooed a "Sub-zero" logo on their arm, which is an O with a negative symbol inside it. * The album Life Is Killing Me was originally titled The Dream Is Dead after the name of the closing song. This led some fans to believe that the band was retiring or breaking up, which proved untrue.
