In 1978, he, singer Ian McCullogh and bassist Les Pattinson formed Echo and The Bunnymen, with drummer Pete de Freitas joining in time for acclaimed debut Crocodiles in 1981. The band's output through the '80s remains some of the most beloved alternative rock of its time, with "The Cutter" and "The Killing Moon" reaching the U.K. Top 10 and singles like "Bring on the Dancing Horses" and "Lips Like Sugar" becoming cult hits on U.S. radio.
