Roadrunner Records signed the band after the release of their second demo and released the band's first three albums. However, problems arose during the making of Stillborn: Roadrunner Records was not happy with the band's performance, and the band was unhappy with the label's lack of effort for supporting and promoting the band. After the release of Stillborn, Malevolent Creation was dropped from Roadrunner Records and signed to Pavement Music. Eventually, problems arose between the band and Pavement Music as well, mainly Pavement Music putting out re-releases unauthorized by the band and the band not receiving any royalties, as well as releasing numerous compilations that weren't approved by the band. Malevolent Creation has also had numerous lineup changes, most notably original members leaving the band but having rejoined several times.
